We tested six Niobrara samples collected from a quarry in Longmont, Colorado. The quarry itself has excellent exposures of the Fort Hays limestone and up to the B Marl of the Smoky Hill member of the Niobrara formation. We also tested three Berea sandstone samples as a control test for comparison..

The Niobrara play in the Powder River Basin (PRB) and Trabing Field reflects a continuous-type accumulation with structural deformation and complex stratigraphy reflected at all scales. The field was previously studied in order to understand the petroleum potential of the Frontier Formation. The work done prior to this study have failed to focus on understanding the field-scale structural and ...Cretoxyrhina (/ k r ɪ ˌ t ɒ k s i ˈ r h aɪ n ə /; meaning 'Cretaceous sharp-nose') is an extinct genus of large mackerel shark that lived about 107 to 73 million years ago during the late Albian to late Campanian of the Late Cretaceous. The type species, C. mantelli, is more commonly referred to as the Ginsu shark, first popularized in reference to the Ginsu …The contact of the Pierre Shale and the underlying Niobrara Formation may be seen southeast of the town of Wallace along the south side of the South Smoky Hill Valley. The Pierre Shale crops out at many localities in the central and northern parts of the county, particularly along stream valleys. It is typically soft and easily eroded, and low ...

Niobrara Formation (Late Cretaceous) at surface, covers 6 % of this area. Argillaceous chalk, limestone and shale. Chalk is medium gray to white, interbedded with thin layers of chalky shale; contains many fossil clams, oysters, and formanifera. Limestone is light gray to medium gray and yellowish gray, interbedded with medium-gray chalky shale ...The Niobrara Formation was deposited in the Western Interior Seaway (WIS), which filled an active foreland basin during the Upper Cretaceous. The WIS experienced important oceanographic variations ...The Niobrara Formation has been analyzed using pyrolysis by several workers (Rice, 1984). Organic-rich beds in the formation have organic carbon values which range from 0.5 to 8 weight percent and average 3.2 weight percent. The kerogen present in the Niobrara is Type-II or oil-prone (sapropelic).

Its fossils specimens were found in the Niobrara Formation and Pierre Shale Formation in Kansas, Alabama, Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota. What was a Pteranodon's habitat? The Pteranodon lived near the ocean or sea. The area where their fossils were found was covered by a large inland sea. This paper presents geologic and reservoir parameters of the Niobrara Formation in Weld County, Colorado. With the use of computer generated contour maps, it is possible to predict favorable areas of profitable Niobrara pay. This predictability is further enhanced when combined with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis and historical production analysis. The SEM results show ...Widespread disconformities have been found within the Carlile Shale and between the Carlile Shale and the Niobrara Formation. Less extensive disconformities are within the Greenhorn Formation, the Niobrara Formation, and the Pierre Shale. First posted October 11, 2011. Sheet 1 PDF (109 kb)
