I am having a problem getting a 1917 bayonet to mount on the replica 1897 heat shield lugs I ordered from Taylor LLC. Difficult figuring exactly why the bayonet will not go on the lugs. Wondering if anyone has had the same problem and how they resolved it. Contacting Jack at Taylor has not provided a solution. I was hoping for info on a Winchester 1897 shotgun I acquired. It appears to be in Trench gun configuration and was curious as to whether it is authentic. Serial number is E 677857. It has a 4 hole heat shield/bayonet adaptor. I did not see any military type markings. Metal is patina, fore end has cracks, as does the stock.I found a 1897 take down Winchester for a little over $500. It was an original long barrel full choke gun that was already cut down to a riot gun length. The main part I was missing was / is the bayonet mount heat shield that clamps to the barrel.
