They speak the Mixe languages, which are classified in the Mixe–Zoque family, and are more culturally conservative than other Indigenous groups of the region, maintaining their language to this day.Oaxaca stands out demographically owing to its large number of indigenous peoples. 53% of Mexico’s indigenous people are considered to be speakers of indigenous languages (with 5% unable to speak Spanish), making up at least a third of the indigenous population.
