These two HHMI activities can be found for free on the HHMI website. This tiered assignment is meant to reinforce argumentation based on evidence.Tiered assignments: qualitative and/or quantitative variation of materials and tasks according to challenge level, complexity, outcome, process, product, and/or resources. Intentional composition of student working groups: establishing decidedly homogeneous or heterogeneous subgroups based on performance, readiness, interests, etc.

While you probably know that it's not necessary to plan a unique lesson for every student, you may not be aware of some of the simplest ways to provide differentiation, so in this tip I'll share just one, the tiered activity, also known as a tiered assignment .Steps: Identify key concepts, skills, and essential understandings that you want all students to achieve. These elements become the basis for your on-level tasks. Identify how you will cluster groups/activities. Although you can create multiple levels of tiers, keep the number of levels consistent with your group of students.This is a set of 3 tiered activities.
